The first name to pop into my head was Christopher Nolan.
Some people think he’s the best director in Hollywood right now.
His latest movie, Oppenheimer, won Oscar for Best Film last year. All his movies are blockbusters that make money.

Yet.
I couldn’t really get into Oppenheimer. Both of my brothers loved it. I watched it on Amazon Prime and turned it off 1/3 of the way into it.
Snooze fest. Intellectually interesting material, but wouldn’t that have been better for a documentary?
His movie before that?
Tenet. I watched it with my wife. And honestly can’t remember much about it.
I never got around to Dunkirk. I thought Interstellar had such a weird, poorly written ending. Deus Ex Machina much?
Those are his movies of the last 10 years or so.
But before that:
Inception was SO good. The acting, the mind-bending visuals, the writing, the characters, the music.
Everything was 10/10 in this movie.
The Dark Knight trilogy are the best Batman movies OF ALL TIME. They are great movies, even if you don’t like superhero films.
And the Prestige is one of my favorite movies. You can watch it over and over again and still be entertained. And notice little things that you missed.
He’s redoing The Odyssey next year. Maybe that will return his movies to their former glory.
Or maybe he’s like Icarius. He flew too close to the sun.
So anytime he does something that doesn’t blow my mind, my expectations are so high that I can’t accept it.
