Where did the idea for the film “Fight Club” come from? Is it inspired by real events?

The film Fight Club is an adaptation of a book of the same name written by Chuck Palahniuk.

The author got the idea for the novel after being beaten up while camping. He complained about the noise made by the radio of a group of campers who were near his tent.

When he returned to work two days later, he was fascinated to find that no one mentioned his injuries. Instead, he was told trivialities like, “How was your weekend?”

Palahniuk concluded that the reason people reacted the way they did was because if they asked him what happened, some degree of personal interaction would be required, and his co-workers simply didn’t want to connect with him on a personal level. It was his fascination with this societal “blockage” that became the basis of his novel.

For the record, Palahniuk said he found the film to be better than his book!
